A Hankerin’ for Biscuits

Unfortunately, my camera needs batteries, so no photo. I had this craving for biscuits, and instead of driving to McD’s to get a sausage biscuit, (they’re only a dollar!) I looked up a recipe to try and make my own. Found this great post that gives the reasons why certain flours are better than others, and some good tips for making a great flaky biscuit.

They turned out great, even though I had the standard ‘heavy’ protein flour. I’m excited to have this biscuit knowledge now. If only I had some sausage patties…

Zoo Food and etc.

The rundown for this week goes like this: Walked on Monday, Walked on Tuesday, Didn’t walk on Wednesday, Went to Terminally Long Award Ceremonies on Thursday and Today is still young.

Tuesday’s walk was accomplished at the Zoo!! It was a great day at the zoo, as they usually are. Some visits are better than others, but this was a particularly lovely visit, and it had everything to do with the Butterfly Exhibit. Will include photos at end of post.

Zoo menu: I had a chicken salad croissant and a large pop. Have I ever mentioned that I have a serious addiction to pop? Well I do. And it has only gotten worse with this pregnancy. It always sounds good. Anyway, the croissant was 3.50$. They brought it out and it was gigantic! Delicious flavor of chicken salad, a touch of pepper, and lettuce and tomato. Great sandwich. The kids had a corn dog and popcorn chicken and curly fries and pop. (They inherited the addiction from me.) Speaking of Zoo Menus. Our local zoo has a great poster up that talks about the amounts of food that they go through a year for the animals. Two largest menu items? Alfalfa hay and Sweet Potatoes. Sweet potatoes??? I have revised my opinion of sweet potatoes from when I was a child. The only way it was ever presented to me in my youth was mashed and saturated with marshmallows and nuts and sugar. When I was a kid, I hated chopped nuts of any kind. Add to that, the flavor of sweet potatoes turned my stomach for many years…no explanation. Now that I’m grown, I have rediscovered the glorious sweet potato. It is packed with nutrition and flavor. Personally, I like to serve it baked with lots of butter or margarine, and the family can dress it any way they like. Most family members choose ungodly amounts of brown sugar. I like salt. So I have to concur with the Zoo. Sweet potatoes are clearly a great choice.

On to find my camera and upload the butterfly pix!

Ice Cream and Pickles? Try Again

Walked outside today with Etherealanna and Farley…all the way to the Duck Pond. It was great! Nice change of pace.

I don’t know what the big deal is about pregnant ladies and pickles and ice cream. Never sounded good to me, and I’ve spent a good deal of my adult life pregnant.

However…

I have been having this obsessive thought…every day for several days in fact…and finally decided to indulge and see what happens. Poured lemonade over a small scoop of ice cream: DIVINE! At least to me. I’m crazy about lemonade, especially in the summer, but this baby is giving me the worst heartburn EVER. Ice cream has been the only relief (and that includes Tums and Pepcid) but I’m not a huge huge fan of ice cream. I do love me some softserve every once in a while. So this afternoon, when I couldn’t decide between my favorite drink and a soothing balm for the heartburn, I just combined the two. It was so refreshing! I don’t know that I would let it sit very long, because I never have been a fan of buttermilk. Just thought I would share a fun but strange combination. By the way, I’ve often made a dessert for the family involving orange juice and ice cream, which pretty much makes Orange Dreamcicle sense, so I figured it wouldn’t be too far off the mark to try lemonade instead. Have a lovely day, and keep praying for rain. It worked the last time…and my garden and every body else’s garden, needs it.

Did What I Could

Wow. I don’t know what the deal is, but these last two days have been killer. It’s possible I need new lube on my treadmill, so I’ll have to get some. Seems like it’s three times harder to do the same distance. Sorry folks, that’s all I got today. We got rain!
